Two Pool Barrier Types: Glass Balustrades And Tubular Metal Fencing

Pool fencing is mainly for safety. However, the deck area should feel relaxing and pleasant so everyone can have fun and enjoy hanging out. Read on to discover how glass balustrades and tubular metal fences fare in terms of their openness, design options and compliance with safety regulations.

Openness

Both barrier types provide clear visibility so you can keep watch over the pool from other parts of the garden. Neither screen the pool deck with opaque barriers that block the view. However, because glass is transparent, it virtually disappears, so the yard seems like one open area — unsegmented.

While you can see through tubular metal railings, they create a more obvious boundary that separates the pool area. They allow you to add structure to the outdoors — something you may be keen for in a vast sprawling garden.

The two kinds of barriers can also combine in one structure. You could, for instance, fit tubular metal rails along the pool sides and glass balustrades across the front. While the glass offers openness, the side metal rails provide structure.

Design Options

Glass balustrades come with different framing options. On fully framed models, visible metal edging and channels hold the panels together. Frameless models, though, use minimal clamps, so the glass pieces look clear and bare for a wide-open feeling. You can texture the glass with frosting to block glare, but they'll feel more substantial.

The railings on tubular metal pool fencing display diverse forms. Some feature elaborate scrolls and spearheads, while others have simple rails with a flat bar across the top. With such variety, you can select a design to flatter your home and pool deck. Cream, black, and green are several colour possibilities.

Safety Regulations

Both of these fences provide safe barriers to block children from jumping in the pool without an adult. Check your local regulations for specifics, but a pool fence will generally need to be of a certain height to hinder climbing. You'll need to eliminate any objects beside the barrier that kids could clamber up to climb the fence. As well, the structure needs to reach the ground or only leave a small space too narrow for squeezing underneath.

Other rules relate to the gate. The latch should be high enough so that small children can't reach it. Plus, the latch might need to be on the poolside of the gate also. Your fence contractors can ensure that both glass and tubular metal fences comply with local safety regulations.
